Hitting a High 3 Wood

photo credit: Jim Epler Hitting the 3 wood is one of the most intimidating shots in golf, it needn't be. To get more height from your shot, stand a bit closer to the ball at address. Your swing will be on a more upright plane and will take full advantage of the minimal loft of the 3 wood. Place more weight on your heels, this will help your balance and keeps your body behind the ball.
Take your club straight back when beginning the swing. Make a full shoulder turn and keep your hands high above your shoulders. The high hand position will cause the club to move into the ball in a more downward angle. Return your club along the same target line on your downswing. Don't try to help or “scoop” the ball up.
