Hitting From Deep Rough

photo credit: danperry.com It’s easy to give up on a shot that has landed in deep, thick rough, but don’t ! There are just a couple of important things to remember: Take one extra club no matter how far the shot, and play the ball an inch or two back in your stance. Swing down at the ball at a steeper angle in order to catch the ball first, which can be difficult to do.
Two schools of thought: (1) Open the clubface slightly and aim a bit left of target (the open clubface will cut through the grass easier). (2) Aim in a normal fashion and close the clubface slightly since making contact with the tall grass prior to impact, will tend to open the clubface slightly.
