The 3 Wood

photo credit: nsaplayer One of the hardest shots for amateur golfers is a 3 wood from a tight lie. The idea with this shot is to make solid contact. The following are 3 wood fundamentals:
You must hit with a descending blow, taking a slight divot if necessary. Shift your weight to your lead side and swing through the ball with fully extended arms. Do not think about hitting the ball, just make a good swing and end up with a full finish. A good 3 wood shot should feel and look effortless.
If hitting the 3 wood intimidates you, carry a 4 wood instead. Compared to a 3 wood, the 4 wood is a much easier club to hit.
