Putting on Fast Greens

Creative Commons License photo credit: nsaplayer     The biggest challenge about playing a new golf  course is the speed of the greens.   To help you adapt quicker try the following tips:

(1)   Use a very light grip to control the pace of your putterhead movement.   Gripping the club tighter may give you the illusion of better control and more feel, however, you actually lose those two important equation.  

(2)   On fast greens your putting  stroke must be extremely smooth.   Your follow-through should be a little longer than your backstroke since the putterhead should accelerate through impact.  

(3)   Use  my “inch per foot” rule”   with short putts.   Your backstroke should travel 1 inch for every foot of distance.   Example:   On a 1 ft. putt, take the club back 1 inch.   On a 3 foot putt take it back 3 inches etc.
